"I applied for State Farm homeowners insurance and was flat-out denied based on my credit score—no inspection, no property evaluation, no legitimate underwriting. Just a generic denial letter that gave me no real reason or path forward.

Then, 75 days later, my house was destroyed by a tornado.

I reached back out to the same agent, Stacy Clark, who told me—in front of witnesses—that if I could locate the original denial letter, she would “make it right.” That gave me hope… for a minute. I found the letter and mailed it to her—certified, with proof. And I followed up.

Nothing. No returned calls. No updated quote. No action at all.

It’s now been months, and I am still living in unsafe, unsanitary, and unsecure conditions, without coverage, while my neighbors are rebuilding. I’ve lost time, money, security—and most of all—faith in the system.

And here’s the kicker: State Farm broke the law.

❌ Fair Credit Reporting Act (15 USC § 1681m) requires a proper adverse action notice when credit is used to deny coverage. State Farm gave me no details, no scoring factors, no way to dispute anything.

❌ Mississippi Code § 83-5-35 prohibits unfair trade practices—like denying coverage without valid underwriting or misrepresenting facts.

❌ Mississippi Code § 83-2-7 requires that insurance decisions follow fair, consistent guidelines and not discriminate arbitrarily.

❌ Even the NAIC model rules require disclosure of how credit is used—and an opportunity to correct it. That never happened.

And I’m not alone. Courts have crushed companies for behavior just like this:

🔹 Estate of Minor v. USAA (MS): $10M+ awarded for post-disaster bad faith
🔹 Heritage Props. v. Ironshore (MS): Bad faith claim upheld after denial letter misrepresentation
🔹 State Farm v. Campbell (US Sup. Ct.): $145M in punitive damages for deliberate mishandling of claims
🔹 Shannen Doherty v. State Farm: $6.3M awarded for underpayment of a fire claim
🔹 GEICO & Shelter Mutual cases: Awards from $1M to $14M for bad-faith denials and delays

So if you're reading this thinking "that won’t happen to me"—you’re wrong. This isn’t a one-off. This is a company that denies protection before disaster strikes, then ghosts you after the damage is done.

My next step? Formal complaints to the Mississippi Insurance Commissioner, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and civil litigation under Mississippi Code § 83-5-45, which specifically protects against insurer misconduct and bad-faith denial.
If they don’t step up, I will go federal. I’m documenting everything for the CFPB, the Attorney General, and if needed, the courts.

State Farm doesn’t just fail their customers—they fail their applicants, too.

I wasn’t asking for a handout. I was asking for coverage I qualified for. And when disaster came, they were nowhere to be found.
